Making a difference through recycling! In celebration of National Recycling Week, Stellenbosch Municipality’s Waste Management team partnered with MetPac-SA to tackle illegal dumping hotspots and promote separation at source across Franschhoek, Lanquedoc, and Klapmuts!
Highlights from the 3-day initiative:
Franschhoek (Langrug): Led by Ward 1 Cllr Reginald Pheiffer, EPWP teams and local volunteers cleaned up sports fields, parks, and key areas—collecting 280 kg of recyclables sent to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF).
Lanquedoc: Reached 50 households through door-to-door visits, engaged the Languedoc Waterblommetjie Elderly Club, and welcomed over 80 University of Western Cape volunteers, collecting 100 bags (220 kg) of recyclable waste.
Klapmuts (Mandela City): Engaged 100 households via door-to-door education on waste management and health impacts, recovering 100 bags (500 kg) of recyclables for MRF processing.
Together, over 1,000 kg of recyclable materials were diverted from landfill sites, showing the power of community education and action. Keeping our environment clean is a collective responsibility!
