MetPac-SA Celebrates the Women Driving Change in the Recycling Industry

MetPac-SA recently hosted its inaugural International Women’s Day event on April 23, 2025, in Durban, a vibrant celebration of the women shaping South Africa’s recycling and sustainability landscape. The gathering brought together female entrepreneurs, recycling pioneers, and government representatives for a day of shared stories, insightful conversations, and valuable networking.

The auspicious event, themed in MetPac-SA’s royal blue and silver, recognised the vital contributions of women across the sector. Esteemed guests and speakers, including Miss Mamogala Musekene (Deputy Director General, DFFE), Miss Palesa Phili (CEO, Durban Chamber of Commerce), Miss Maggie Johnsson (eThekwini Councillor and recycling pioneer), Miss Emelda (Education Officer, Durban South Waste), and Miss Nkosazana Mbatha (Youth Entrepreneur in metal fashion), shared their expertise and experiences. Dignitaries from DFFE, DSW, CSW, Phoenix for the Planet, Amajuba Municipality, Emadlangeni Municipality, Danhauser Municipality, and the Durban Chamber of Commerce were also in attendance. This landmark event, fully sponsored by MetPac-SA, underscored the pivotal role of women in building a more sustainable future through recycling.
